Role of MC

We strongly suggest that you choose an MC who is a confident speaker. We highly recommend this to be an old family friend or relative.

The MC is required to

  1. Introduce him/herself to Function Supervisor/Coordinator
  2. Call for guests to be gathered for arrival of bridal party & speeches.
  3. Explain Housekeeping items like Dinner service, smoking areas, bathroom locations and other venue specific items
  4. Introduce the bridal party usually in couples - grooms parents, bride’s parents, bridesmaid/groomsmen, matron of honour/best-man, bride & groom
  5. Call for Grace/Blessing/Prayer (if required)
  6. Introduce Speeches - see “order of speeches” on next page
  7. Introduce the cutting of the cake and then first dance
  8. Call guests together for throwing of bouquet & garter
  9. Call guests together for the farewell circle/line
  10. Master of Ceremonies introduces first person who will start the speeches. (2 minutes)
  11. First person will deliver the first speech and toast to the Bride and Groom. (3 minutes)
  12. Introduce the Groom who will "accept" the previous speech for himself and his bride, and then present a speech and toast to the Bridesmaids and the Maid of Honor. (5 minutes)
  13. Introduce the Best Man who will "accept" the speech made by the groom on behalf of the bridesmaids, and make his own speech addressing the parent's of the Bride and Groom. (5 minutes)
  14. The Brides's father will deliver a reply (5 minutes)
  15. The Groom's father will reply (5 minutes)
  16. As the MC, you now present a short speech and toast to any absent family and friends who couldn't attend the wedding. (2 minutes) Generally allow 30 minutes for speeches. If you are having any extra speeches, or wish to do “telegrams” this time may be longer.
  17. Once the main speeches are completed, the Master of Ceremonies can invite everyone to gather for the cutting of the cake.
  18. Once the cutting of the cake is completed the Master of Ceremonies then invites the newly weds to the dance floor for their first dance.
